What has been done: Getting ARound

You remember the first time you saw the original Terminator movie? Remember when the camera showed the world, from the Terminator's perspective?:

(scene from Terminator 2) Data overlaying a real-world scene. Sound familiar?

All that really was, was a Hollywood version of a HUD. (Heads Up Display). HUDs have been around a long time, long before AR. Fighter pilots in the military have had it *forever*:

 Highway to the Augmented Zone...

Heck, it's even used by the RC/Hobby community to give a telepresence in their models, known as "FPV" (First Person View) by companies like ImmersionRC.  Here's an example:

"It's almost like being there!"

However, we're not *as* concerned with telepresence, (as cool as it is), we want "a HUD for the everyseer". On the go, far from our terrestrial tied computers, to experience the DAL in all it's al fresco goodness, right? Well, to qoute the iPhone ad campaign "There's an app for that!"

The DAL is great for navigation of the mobile Seer. Aside from the geographical goodness that is Google Maps, ect..

Here's some examples. Most, (at the moment are iPhone apps, but you know Droid is never far behind) If you have a SmartPhone that is "none of the above", you *may* still get to experience it...your mileage may vary. One way , or another, your device must have GPS capability to operate.

Theolodite Pro:
Always know where you're heading is.

Pocket Universe:

Great for Celestial Navigation

Or, how about the WIkitude Drive App (for Android, yay!). Now, a stand-alone GPS for your car is obsolete! Check it out:

Sorry, Garmin.

ARWave:

Well, there is more (there always is, as there will forever be), so get out there, and see.

Stay Augmented
